Skin Depigmentation

Medical Term: Vitiligo

Skin depigmentation, or vitiligo, can occur as a result of a cancer treatment regimen. Very few options exist for trying to cover up and fix the areas of lightly-colored skin. One of the most important things that you can do is to protect your skin when you go out in the sun. Using sunscreen with an SPF greater than 30 will keep you from tanning, thus allowing your skin to stay lighter and minimize the appearance of the white areas on your skin. Most importantly, wearing sunscreen when in the sun will keep you from getting sunburned since lighter-colored skin tends to burn more easily. Make up or self tanning sprays can also be purchased to cover up the white patches of skin and even out skin tone.
