  • NCCN task force takes strong stand in genotyping debate by Jerry Call The National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) GIST task force, including GIST experts in oncology, surgery, pathology and research from around the world, met in December of 2006. In July, The Journal of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network published the updated treatment recommendations of the task force.
  • Pediatric GIST: an evolving concept by Cristina Antonescu, M.D. Although GISTs occurring in the pediatric age group are extremely rare, comprising no more than two to three percent of cases, they constitute a distinct clinical and molecular subset from the adult tumors.
  • Rigg: The healthiest woman, despite GIST by Darlene Rigg In 2003, Darlene Rigg wrote a humorous and poignant reflection on her first experience with GIST on the LRG listserv. This month we are reprinting that letter. Next month Darlene will once again tell her story, four years later.

  • Carney-Stratakis syndrome explained by Jerry Call

    A diverse group of researchers has found the genetic defects that cause a rare type of familial GIST called "Carney- Stratakis syndrome". This syndrome has some similarities to Carney's Triad but it is a distinct entity. This discovery may one day lead to better treatments for the affected patients and may give researchers new insights into Carney's Triad and possibly into pediatric GIST in general.
